In the years before his death, Wynn had found his true calling in life as a chef and master of the culinary arts. As my cousin said in his message, some people search their entire lives to find their passion and Wynn was lucky enough to have found it so early.
In his memory, we have asked that donations be made to Liberty's Kitchen in New Orleans, LA. If a donation is not possible, we simply ask that you spread the word about their organization to your friends and coworkers. If you know someone visiting the city of New Orleans, mention the cafe to them. If you have a business contact who may need catering, send them an email. If you yourself are in New Orleans, stop by for a sandwich or coffee and tell them that Wynn sent you.
Liberty's Kitchen is an innovative, non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk youth by building self-sufficiency and independent living in a supportive community where they learn life, social and employability skills in a culinary setting. Liberty's Kitchen supports its programs with teaching-focused businesses: a working cafe and coffee house, catering business, and contract food services. These businesses are designed to give their students practical experience while helping to sustain the programs.
The Liberty's Kitchen Youth Development Program provides at-risk youth, ages 16-21, with the opportunity to build a better future by increasing their ability to change their situation and engage in a supportive community. The intensive training program combines hands-on food-service training with classroom instruction, individual case management, education programs and job placement services and/or a return to an educational setting.
